Brisbane Aquifer Project
The Brisbane Aquifer Project was initiated in response to the worse drought in over 100 years in South East Queensland. The “Water Amendment Regulation (No6)” to the Water Act 2000 in August 2006 legislated BCC to source 20ML/d of aquifer water to supplement the potable water supply by 30 June 2007.
I held numerous roles in this $80m project from its inception in 2006 to completion in 2009. I was appointed Deputy Alliance Manger in June 2007 and took on the role of client representative on the Alliance Leadership Team with the main focus to ensure effective coordination between Brisbane Water, BCC personnel and the alliance team members. I also supported the Alliance Manager in the daily project activities associated with delivering and commissioning six Water Treatment plants and over 30 kms of raw and treated water mains across two local government areas.
The delivery of the project was undertaken by the Brisbane Caboolture Aquifuture Alliance (BCAA). This alliance was the first in Australia where two local government councils joined together with the private sector to deliver a major infrastructure project.
